Let’s talk build up sessions. As many of you know the road to daycare can be a little windy and can take much patience however we endeavour to be the team for the job.
Daycare can be quite an alien concept for our dogs. As much as we would like to think it is all plain sailing, the truth is, it can take a huge amount of reassurance and patience to get our dogs to love the environment. This being said, daycare is certainly not for every dog, as we have previously discussed.
We as a business, pride ourselves on having a non-negotiable build up policy, meaning your dog must be gradually introduced to attend our daycare. Unfortunately, this is not a ‘one size fits all’ policy and can take time. We completely understand how frustrating this can be for owners and does not always fit their time frames. We recommend beginning the build-up sessions well in advance of requiring the service.
Some dogs do particularly well in daycare and others need to be nurtured to help them enjoy the experience. Our build up sessions generally begin with a one hour session, post assessment. This allows us to make sure your dog has a smaller dog to staff ratio and we can provide lots of attention. If the assessment has been a roaring success, we may suggest two hours. This is all based on the individual dog. A build up, depending on the dog, can take as much as 5-6 sessions before they are ready for a full day. Please note, some dogs may take longer than this and it is based solely on the dog and their welfare.
Each dogs welfare is at the forefront of our policies and it is important we don’t force a dog into an environment that they would be uncomfortable in. This is not only for the safety of the dog but also our current play groups and the pet care assistants.
Dogs being forced into uncomfortable positions can quickly become reactive and this is what we want to avoid at all costs. Daycare is much like nursery for children and should be treated the same. We follow strict curriculum, nap times and owner feedback to ensure we offer the best possible service.
Our mission is to ensure we are created well rounded and balanced dogs for our daycare but also for our owners.
Our build up sessions do come at a cost as we have to create smaller groups for your dog and on occasion a one to one service. The team will be happy to discuss pricing with you and further information.
We look forward to welcoming your fur-babies!
